Every year some players make a name for themselves.  I predict these guys will leave an impression on the rugby world in the first half of the year.
Varsity Cup

Breeding ground for the Currie Cup
-          Tythan Adams (Maties) is a dangerous winger that should head the try scoring list.
-          Wesley Dunlop (Tuks) is a more than capable flyhalf that has already played Currie Cup and won the SA                 Club Champs with College Rovers.
-          The Cheetah Lappies Labuschagne (Shimlas) is an exciting prospect that impressed in the last Currie Cup.
-          Os Hamman (Maties) is built like a double door fridge!  He scores plenty for a prop!
-          Watch out for Siya Mdaka (Pukke).
-          Adrian Kritzinger (UCT) is a centre in the De Wet Barry mould, very good.
6 Nations
-          Sam Warburton (Wales) will want to make a claim as one of the best loose forwards on the planet.
-          2012 will be a big year for the big Samoan-born Manu Tuilagi (England).
-          Paul O’Connell (Ireland) thrives under pressure and he’s just been made captain!
-          Another overseas born player this time ex-South African Brad Barritt (England) could have his international breakthrough season.
-          Richie Gray (Scotland) is primed for a fantastic campaign.
-          Uncapped Wesley Fofana (France) is worth keeping an eye on.  His form for Clermont has been sensational.
-          Robert Barbieri (Italy) has great potential.
Vodacom Cup
-          The Namibian Rohan Kitshoff (WP) should be one of the best loose forwards in the competition.
-          Former SA Under 20 captain Arno Botha (Blue Bulls) will contend with Rohan Kitshoff for best loose forward.
-          Prop Trevor Nyakane (Cheetahs) is being mentored in the prop factory under Os Du Randt in Bloemfontein.
-          Juan Imhoff (Pampas XV) is one of the stars of the champion team.
SupeRugby
-          Watch out for Robbie Fruean (Crusaders)
-          A big season awaits Johann Sadie (Bulls)
-          The impressive Siya Kolisi (Stormers) is an outside bet at having a great debut season.
-          Import Mike Harris (Reds) wants to make his debut for the Wallabies this year, he was born across the Tasman Sea in New Zealand.
-          Aaron Cruden (Chiefs) will be exciting inside of Sonny Bill Williams and Richard Kahui.
-          Rene Ranger (Blues) is a personal favourite of mine and I think this is a big season for him.
-          Adam Ashley-Cooper (Waratahs) will be a lethal weapon for his new team, the ‘Tahs.
-          Jarrod Saffy (Rebels) is also due for a big one in this, his second season.
-          And captain Josh Strauss (Lions) will hope for national honours with another solid SupeRugby tournament.
-          The player to keep in out for in Bloemfontein is Johan Goosen (Cheetahs).  He shone in the latest Currie Cup and is surely a future bok.
-          Big Willem Alberts (Sharks) has started his bok career, however he needs a big season to cement his spot in the squad.
-          In Wellington, follow the progress of Jack Lam (Hurricanes).
-          Stephen Moore (Brumbies) should be the man to lead Jake White’s Canberra based side.
-          He might not get that much game time but keep an eye on ex-sevens star Kurt Baker (Highlanders), a dangerous fullback.
-          Sam Wykes (Western Force) has big hair and a big game.

Who do you think will make it big in 2012?  Have your say...Later,Oom Frikkie

I stupidly didn't comment when I first read this, but with regards to 6 Nations, my player to watch for England would be Owen Farrell. He has been outstanding for Saracens for 2 years now and I think he could finish up as one of the best.
It's a damn good overview as looking 2 weeks into SupeRugby and a few into 6 Nations your picks are performing.
Great insight.
